| | why should there be a delay? Just try it with 2 webcams, the cheapest ;-) You could have 2 cams, both outputing directly on your vr920... No image processing no nothing except an overlay. You could even have a low priority process do some calculations on some specific frames of your choice and have it display the result afterward... Depending on the type of calculations, you might get near RT processing... |

| One major issue with the vr920 and wearables is its lack of transparency :-/ I'm thinking of maybe trying to modify it using some prisms or beam splitter mirrors to make it see-through. Suggestions??
YES, TRY TO ATTACH A VERY SMALL BATTERY LIKE CAMERA AND SEE ITS VIDEO IN A SMALL window. |

| How much power does your box draw overall? I'm basically building the same thing but right now I'm unsure what to use for batteries.

| Warning! the asus e3 uses the intel mobile g50 chipset - which as far as ive experienced will not work properly with the VR920
stuff like the visualizer will work - but try playing WoW or anything needing hardware T&L and itll lock up solid as it tries to use software T&L - this is a real bummer as id love to have WoW running on my vr920 using my aspire1 - all the current subnotes use the intel chipset as far as I know though.
cheers. |

| | YES! I'm not the only one! A year ago I had the same idea, and i'm just now getting all the components. My idea is using the VR920 with an OQO 01+ WINxp micro computer, wired through a scott Evest for carrying and wire management. When I get my 920 I could post updates if anyone is interested. Problems I forsee is heat management/ventilation for the OQO, an affordable interface, and I need bigger balls to wear it in public. I still need to figure out the best option for a keyboard an pointing device. I'm trying a finger mounted mouse first, ideally I would like a handheld trackstick button thingy but I may have to build one. I've seen some one-handed keyboards, but i'm not sure what way to go with the keyboard yet. |

| For those looking for a cheap platform to run this off of that comes with it's own batteries, consider looking at netbooks/subnotebooks.
I'm working with an EEE 901 with mine, and if you install the windows 7 RC you can get some really powerful voice recognition sequences running.
That being said, the new Vuzix product slated to be released this fall (The Wrap920AV) would be the ideal solution for wearable computing. If the price on that is < $500 I'm switching to that fo sho.

1 handed keyboards are tricky. Consider a suggestive input device, something similar to how t9word works on a texting phone.
For mice, get a usb touchpad, and velcro it to your off-hand. That's what I'm doing.
And how could you do something like this and NOT wear it in public? =D
