Hi Vuzix VR920 fans,

What do you want to see in future VR software from Vuzix?

Our VR engineering team has been working hard on enabling Vuzix support in games and other applications, assisting 3rd party developers in adding native support for Vuzix VR hardware, and even creating applications like the Vuzix JPS Viewer for your enjoyment.

What else would you like to see in the way of Vuzix VR related software?
Would you like to see changes in the iWearMonitor or iWear Calibrator software? Would you like to see other enabling applications like the Vuzix JPS Viewer? Is there something totally different that you would like to see in software that would enhance your Vuzix VR experience?

As Product Manager of our Consumer Division, I would like to extend a personal invitation to each of you to tell us what your wants and wishes are for future Vuzix VR enabling and/or enhancing software.

Please note, this topic is targeted at software product suggestions; a separate topic is available for hardware suggestions.

I'd like to have the ability to get more depth out of the 3d images; having some divergence "beyond" the screens. This would add tremendously to the vr experience especially in wow and flight sims. Letting the user have control of these parameters in vuzix monitor would be cool

Just as I mentioned before on the forums:

- a better way of calibrating: by going through steps like i mentioned here http://forums.vr920.com/Topic2651-11-1.aspx A graphical representation like the old VFX1 software would also be much better..

- provide a solution for the current problems with the yaw-tracking, if possible at all.

- better/more gamesupport.. also for older games.. because what's a vizor without games/programs.......

- Final: More/frequent information on what vuzix is working on (like game support etc), as a lot of times it just seems we are just talking to a brick wall (last info was near the end of april)..

(oh and one more, also more(/complete) documentation on the (possible) settings in the .ini files required by the direct3dwrappers)

Options to select

1)between-eye distance (ie. stereodepth)

2)Plane that corresponds to display plane depth(where both eyes gets same picture), so i can push all scene farther, or i can pull it on me, so closest objects are outside of screen

3)Smoothing rotation, so no unwanted trembling occurs

and i guess needs some minor improvements on ui, hard to find firmware version, and i'm not easily noticed status line of is vr connected, is stereo enabled

I'd like to see a lot more software support for the VR920 or its successor. Ideally there should be some generic stereo 3D driver that could enable support in any DirectX8/9/10 application. If this is not possible I would hope there could be more supported titles added on a regular basis for new games that are released. The drivers should be able to adjust the 3D settings *in-game* and also display the settings with an OSD. All the stereo 3d drivers, even going back to the old ELSA drivers, had support like this. Common options to support include separation and convergence, although there are others I'm sure you can add (near-plane, far-plane, etc.). I would also like a way to save the settings or even share settings (via XML files) with other users. I'd like to see more support for 3D video either in the Stereoscopic Player or with a native video application.

There could also be something done about the head-tracking in software. I'd like to see a more generic solution (like mouse, joystick emulation), different smoothing parameters, disabling of some axis, etc.

Most importantly I think is the 3D driver support for modern games. I think the current supported games work very well, but so many games are missing. This greatly limits the appeal of the device, it needs to support a lot more titles. I would also like to see more updates as to what is going on behind the scenes. That could be having your developers active on the forum, or maybe with a blog or something along those lines. Sometimes its hard to tell if things are being worked on or not and it would instill more confidence if the internal team were more engaged with the community.

I'd be happy to see a config tool for editing the VR920Dx9Stereo.cfg files, either with a simple graphic preview or implemented as an option in the JPS viewer in windowed mode. At the moment I am rather guessing about the settings.

Can any one direct me to a documentation where the settings are exlained? Up to now, I only know about IPD_View.

Hi!

I would like to see:

1. Driverlevel symmetry of yaw calibration, algorithms implemented that will adjust/smoothen travel to allow equal degree of travel/movement left and right relative to the 'Set Zero' point setting. The result would be the same amount of travel looking left and right even with less than perfect calibrations. Selectable using a tickmark/radiobutton in the calibrator software.

2. Driverlevel yaw filtering. The result would be that any game and environment could be 'jitterfree' regardless of direct Vuzix support or not. The filtering amount/value for the yaw axis should be decided by the user within the calibrator software as diffrent environments has different magnetic interference.

3. Driverlevel smoothening/non-linear operation calculations of the yaw axis. The result would be smooth and steady speed yaw movement. Closely related and would share variables with my first point. Selectable using a tickmark/radiobutton in the calibrator software.

All three at driverlevel would allow these settings to be used in mouselook emulated environments hence my request for driverlevel implementation.
By enabling/disabling/setting these values direclty in the calibrator software, the user could instantly see what effect this would have on the yaw movement/calibration thus my request is that these options was to reside in the calibrator software.

These are high on my wishlist

Rgds,
Troels

Making sure it all works under 64bit Vista is also a must, as more and more new computer are preinstalled with 64bit vista..

For more software support you could try doing some sort of a deal with Novint.

Novint buys rights to access the source code for games, in order to add support for their Falcon, and then sells the modified software. They have a huge library of software that they are allowed to add support for at the source-code level, and deals with the major software labels.

I'm sure they would be interested in working with other companies who want to do the same thing (although they would charge you money).

Another software change I would like to see is 6DOF support built into the API and native software, even though the VR920 doesn't support it. You would then add some way to allow other software to provide the x,y,z position from seperate tracking hardware. The tracker could be a polhemus tracker, TrackIR, P5 glove, some sort of optical tracking, or whatever. You don't need to know where the tracking data is coming from, you just need to provide some way for it to be integrated with the VR920 tracking in the driver so that supported games can have 6DOF support.

I would like to see a movie player that supports headtracking in a virtual cinema. The headtracking would need to work for both sitting down and for lying on your back. You could then watch a movie in say 16:9 aspect ratio and turn your head to see the sides of the screen. I would also like to be able to watch 3D movies.

Hi thanks for the opportunity.

I would like to have larger field of view (FOV) and better resolution.

For FSX, there is a program, which is called Wideview. With this program, you can get, let's say 3 screens aligned in the same flight. When it comes to VR920, I suggest you to put 2 more screens for each eye.

One more, PS make it wireless.

Thanks

PS: Expect at least a comment about the suggestions.
