| hey frogger,
if it will not be recognised at all by the firmware installer anymore try plugin the vr920 into a port it has never used before (preferably on a seperate hub e.g. the front or back of pc) after u have started the firmware installer where it says plese plug in your vr920. then when it comes up with message to unplug and plugin the vr920 do what it says, wait 4 - 5 seconds then press ok, this give windows time to recognise what has happened.
let us know what happens,
patrick. |

| Howdy Fellow VR920 Owners,
This will be my first post concerning my month old VR920. A piece of hardware of which I am already dependent on.
One item that seems to have escaped publicity is the pseudo 3D effect given to watching video on this cracking piece of hardware. Use the on-screen menu to switch on the 3D effect.
Well on to the main reason for my first posting.
It concerns the bricking of VR920s via the bios updating procedure.
Using the WindowsXP machine I have dedicated to the VR920 I followed the advised procedure to the letter and yet the update failed numerous times. I tried the various methods suggested on the forums to resurrect and still no completed update.
I was on the verge of contacting Vuzix about return and replace. However as a last throw of the dice I connected the VR920 to my main Windows Vista PC and had another go. Fail. Grrrrrrrr. One final go before the hassle of returning the VR920 and all the withdrawal symptoms that would entail. Wooooooh. It updated. Reconnected to the XP computer and all seems fine.
So if you are lucky enough to have access to another PC with Vista try the update via it.
I can't say it will work for everyone nor anyone but it did work for me. Neither did I try a methodical route but just went on instinct and desperation.
Good luck to all who are having problems with the update process and many thanks to Vuzix for bringing such technology to the average home user.
Regards,
ChronosNet
EDIT:
Nooooooo. The bios update prevents the pseudo 3D effect for watching video. Please, please, please Vuzix re-enable this ability. Watching video now seems so flat. I need my 3D video as indicated by my twitching limbs caused by video 3D withdrawal. Humour, or attempt at humour, aside Vuzix this pseudo 3D effect on video became my main benefit of the VR920 and as such I seriously request you enable this function. |

| | I tried on three different machines for a total of 40 attempts and finally got the firmware installed. Each time it failed I tried another USB port. 2 days of attempts and everything works great. I started with firmware 1.110.9905.00. Tavernier, Fl
