If you want to use VR920 on PS3 i guess you probably shouldn't use the hdmi socket with any converters(eg hdmi to dvi leads etc) as the resolution will be to high for the VR920. The VR920 has a VGA plug with pins and a USB cable that, from what I can see, actually powers the device. Apparently the PS3 supplies enough power through it's USB sockets to efficiently power the VR920 so thats the USB issue dealt with. So you need to output the video from the PS3 through a VGA cable to be able to get the video onto the VR920. You can get a composite video/s-video to VGA converter from most places like amazon etc. This converter also has a VGA plug with pins which splits into a s-video and a yellow composite lead.

The yellow composite lead is a socket for plugging in a video source, in our case the PS3 using the standard AV lead that comes with the PS3 or what was used on the PS2. This will only transfer the video from the PS3 and not the audio so use speakers that take the red/white leads if you want the audio aswell(which i guess you probably are lol).

You now have video coming from the PS3 which is being output through a VGA plug. The obstacle you now have is that you have 2 VGA plugs with pins that you need to connect together. To solve this you need one of those VGA female-female gender changer converters that has a VGA socket on either side with the holes so that you can connect the VR920 to one side and the VGA cable that you now have coming from the PS3 to other side and if Im correct this should work.

If anybody else manages to succeed with this please let me know how you get on.

Just a quick note also. Taking the red/white leads for audio and plugging them into a converter that has a red/white socket going to a 3.5mm audio socket should theoretically take the audio from the PS3 and allow you to plug any earphones from an Ipod for example into the 3.5mm audio socket to get audio. I havent tried this yet since I am waiting on this converter lead to be delivered from an internet purchase.

Good luck,

Stuart H

RE: VR920 and Xbox 360

Component/svideo/composite-to-VGA converters are $40-$80

For stereoscopy,
USB signal may be necessary, or strict vsync. I don't know if XNA can allow that, but PS3 via linux/OtherOS allows USB access. The PS3 though doesn't give access to 3D drawing via GPU, ever since FW2.10.
Really, x360 or PS3 stereoscopy doesn't look worth developing - it's much easier to code the stuff for PC, and it's guaranteed stereoscopy users have nice PCs :)

RE: VR920 and Xbox 360

for ps3 there are vga to composit cables , but u would need to do alittle work with them to change the composit from male to female. or search for more converters . but all the money spent on converters u could spend on beer and use the console on the big tv with friends :w00t:

RE: VR920 and Xbox 360

@Mike: in theory, and in theory ONLY, the PS3 would work with the VR920; the USB ports in that system do the neat little trick we need them to do to power on the VR920, but Sony has not yet released a VGA cable, so you can't actually connect the two devices together.

As to future projects, well, I'm afraid that I can't really talk about that, but I feel it's pretty safe to say that the VR920 will not be the last product we release, so I'm sure that something with higher def will come along at some point. What and when, well . . . I guess that's going to have to remain a mystery for now. ;)
RE: VR920 and Xbox 360
TechSupport (12/17/2008)
It doesn't have to be a special female/female VGA adapter; one from RadioShack or a similar place should do just fine.
Is there anyway to use the PS3 with this ? Im not sure if i've seen a PS3 - VGA connector yet.

And any word if a high def version (component or better) is being worked on solely for gaming consoles ?

i appreciate it much

MB

RE: VR920 and Xbox 360

It doesn't have to be a special female/female VGA adapter; one from RadioShack or a similar place should do just fine.

RE: VR920 and Xbox 360

I've got a VR920, an Xbox 360 and the Xbox 360 VGA cable. I wanted to give it a try for you but I don't have a female-female VGA adapter.

I don't know if the source by circuit city has the part. I did a quick search on digikey and found three parts in stock that would work (GCHDLPF15F15F-ND, 626-1296-ND, AE10302-ND) but I'm not going to place an order just for that. The Xbox 360 is best played at a big resolution. I use a 720p projector with the HDMI cable and I'm not going back to a lower resolution.

RE: VR920 and Xbox 360
TechSupport (10/29/2008)
@Kyoku57:

Actually, it is possible to connect the VR920 to an XBox 360, using Microsoft's VGA cable, and a female/female VGA adapter. The audio doesn't work, because the XBox 360 doesn't recognize our drivers, which is something that could, in time, be fixed. However, 3D and headtracking do not work either, and there's nothing that we, as developers, can do about that, since we can't access the game files on a console like we can on a PC. However, if a game studio were to release a game with native VR920 support, 3D and headtracking would become a possibility. Perhaps, you will start to see those sorts of games in the future, but right now there are no compatible titles.
I registered just to post on this thread. Hopefuly i'll get what I need.

Can we get a female-to-female VGA connector anywhere...like at radioshak ?

I dont really care about the audio since I already have a digital surround sound setup. (bose)

So is the video really good with the 360 using the VR920. ? The AV920 seems crappy and only accepts Composite signal. which is why im more interested in the VR.

RE: VR920 and Xbox 360

In fact, i was thinking about a new abstract layer between console graphic card driver and VR920 which can permit this...but I understand the fact that is not possible for now.
Thanks for your reply. :)

RE: VR920 and Xbox 360

@Kyoku57:

Actually, it is possible to connect the VR920 to an XBox 360, using Microsoft's VGA cable, and a female/female VGA adapter. We can imagine little 3D game on the market place, or to get some 3D video from the video download center of the Xbox. It just an idea but I don't know why I couldn't work (USB port and VGA capabilities).
