We can imagine little 3D game on the market place, or to get some 3D video from the video download center of the Xbox. It just an idea but I don't know why I couldn't work (USB port and VGA capabilities).
The Bad!

I got my VR920 working, but got no game or simulation.. Higher resolutions (if available in future products) will be rendered useless if the optics cannot be perfectly adjusted physically.
- the adjustable nose pads are fine
- ear-buds can be removed, did so immediately - to make use of my superior soundcard with ear-buds I like and simulated 7.1->stereo sound (EAX doesn't sound real in 2-speakers mode)
- eyeshield is fine, though with my elongated face it doesn't cover even half of the environment. Easily countered with a dark room or a black veil around head.
- distance between temples is fine for me, though for a bit larger person the temples may squeeze the head painfully.
- head-tracking is much better than I expected (I thought it uses accelerometers, not magn. gyroscopes), though not easy to calibrate. Maybe because there is significant magnetic interference near my PC (it's just under a GSM transmitter..).
- the unit is very light for me, while my younger sister found it a bit heavy.
- the ability to watch resolutions like 1680x1050 by using the mouse to concentrate on a specific area is nifty!

Software, that can be improved (I think) (I'm a gamedev programmer and an electronics-hobbyist) :
- JPS viewer is too barebones, but just adding VK_LEFT/VK_RIGHT to select another image is necessary. Btw, the photos of a raptor and three jet-fighters should be accented on, they feel most real.
- the demoscene-like demos (Visualizer) maybe should add a bit more "close encounters" with the objects there, for better stereo-effect. On demo-kiosks or the like, this can be a great selling point. In the demo, I felt threatened when a golden cube morphed into a spiky ball and approached, I almost stepped back XD
- adjustable FOV and distance between eyes in games. (if the projection-matrix is accessible, but I doubt it). HL2 looks almost fine FOV-wise, while CS:S doesn't imho.
- hack in firmware to adjust distance between eyes by simply moving the image a few pixels horizontally (this will make the screen show only i.e 630x480). I'm not sure whether this will work well with the lenses/optics.
- I'm kind of hoping for a separately-sold input adapter, that converts composite/s-video/component color to RGB-VGA, and lets the firmware deinterlace and upscale. Though marketing reasons won't allow it, I presume (will make AVxx0 less useful, and the adapter should cost only ~$20, as full-featured converters are just <$80).
- (edit: ) add firmware support for anaglyphs and maybe other types of input, if possible.

Suggestions for future products:
- definitely adjustable optics, if screen resolution is higher: distance between eyes, diopters, and if possible for very mild strabismus.
- or a way to use one's own glasses. (removable nose-pads, 2 attachable hooks with adjustable height for glasses). May need a separate set of lenses, to account for the increased distance from screen to eyes.
Or well, it may be just my problem, as I refuse/cannot put contact lenses (too sensitive eyes)

Vuzix and iZ3D

I would like to see Vuzix co-operate with these guys (or those guys with you!)!

I tried their drivers, on my 8800Ultra, and without fail, each game worked with no extra ifile copying or messing around.. Lots of video drivers already allow for a virtual desktop that is much bigger than the screen's resolution...they pan around as the mouse hits the edges. It would be the same idea except you turn your head slightly to see the extra area of the desktop. Hopefully it's pretty easy to implement since it doesn't require 3d.

I have an injury that often leaves me bedridden, having to rest my neck for hours. It's very hard to use a laptop when laying down without propping up into a sitting position, which defeats the point. Glasses would be great, but Windows isn't easy to use at resolutions below 1024x768. Panning would allow for much larger desktops.

I'm sure there are other good cases for supporting the non-gaming use of the glasses. Privacy when traveling for example. Not having a screen on would keep from waking up my wife at night :). Who knows, it could end up making huge desktop areas very easy to use and become a popular alternative to multiple monitors!

pleasant surprise

would just like to thank vuzix for the visualizer it's fantastic it put smiles on the faces of the people who tried it and it really shows off the hardware really well, before with the games they was'nt so overwhelmed a quick five mins on it and they were off! hope you can update it now and then keep up the good work :D

[BUMMER ] Punkbuster

:w00t::w00t:
So, I finished CoD4 SP and decided to try MP in 3d, BUT punkbuster considers injected DLL as some malicious stuff and kicks me from server.

I contacted punkbuster, but to no avail.
Probably Vuzix will have better luck with 'em.

Right now any online action gaming is no-go with VR920. But....

I was hoping for immersion that some on this forum seemed to be raving about, but I'm not getting it. When I use this unit, it feel like I'm looking down a dark box which I can see the sides, with a small screen at the other end. I think the screen needs to be closer or bigger, to allow for a part (30% ?) of the peripheral vision to be included in the screen square. I think my cybermaxx had bigger screen/s, albeit poorer quality, but it gave a better sense of immersion from memory, because a part of the peripheral vision was included. If it was issue of LCD size over low retail price, I would have preferred to have spent a further few hundred dollars more for an increase of the LCD size. Maybe they should have a more expensive model that included bigger LCD's.

Head tracking has no tweaking features as far as I can see. I turn my head 90 degrees left or right and the unit only turns 45 degrees or so. I have to turn my head almost 75 degrees to get it to show the 90 degrees angle. I Calibrated according to the manual several times but to still no success in improving it.

But even if HT was working properly, the immersion was the big killer for me. In hind sight, I think I should have bought the latest Trackir and stuck with my 27" monitor.

I'm looking for help with this product so I get the same wow (immersion) factor that others have posted comments about, so no flames from the fanboys please.

I really want VR technology to succeed in order to improve the gaming experience, but at the same time I don't want to fork out hundreds of dollars for a disappointing product.

Deeper 3D

Can someone make a patch that will reset the vantage points of each eye further apart? The SDK returns roll as a value between -90 and 90 degrees.

This is not good enough because you can't detect when the glasses are upsidedown. Euler angles require 2 of the angles to be -180 to 180, and 1 of the angles to be -90 to 90.

Also, the SDK documentation is wrong. It says pitch and roll only go up to +/-70, which is false. They go up to +/-90. Which is the correct behaviour for pitch, but the incorrect behaviour for roll.

The hardware is perfectly capable of supplying the full range of roll values without modification to the firmware. It just needs to use the atan2 function on the horizontal and vertical accelerometer values.

GlovePIE can read the full roll with VR920.StrictRoll or VR920.SmoothRoll if you use the menu to calibrate the VR920 accelerometers.

Suggestion: sponsor mtbs3d.com

MTBS3D.com (Meant To Be Seen in 3D) is a stereoscopic advocacy group that tries to pressure game developers, and graphics card manufacturers to support stereoscopic 3D. As you might have noticed the lack of support for stereoscopic 3D products is a big problem.

It has 2000 signed-up members. Currently it is sponsored by iz3D and TDVision.

Sponsoring it would provide both an excellent way of promoting Vuzix products to people who are interested in stereoscopic displays, and would help pressure game developers to support your products. It also allows the stereoscopic community to help out with your driver development.

Link to my problems and suggestions

Over here
Trying again...

FIX THE FIRMWARE UPDATE!!!!!

EDIT:

Here is a suggestion... make a firmware update that doesn't destroy some people's VR920s. That way people will be able to enjoy all the wonderful new features that Vuzix are generously providing to ungrateful people like me.

Now some people have expensive bricks (although Vuzix is obviously sending out replacements as fast as they can), and I have a free brick. Some people have been able to unbrick their VR920s on their own, and some people have a wonderful new version of their VR920 which they are enjoying and have no complaints about.

Website Needs Videos of Product in Action

Hey there,

I just ordered my VR920 the other day and it was a really tough finding any review or even a video of the product in action. The only 3 videos offered on the site are from 3rd party reviewers which briefly (VERY BRIEFLY) show the product in action. What you guys should do is show how the product works in every supported game and makes long demonstrations (VR920 user with a Video Screen in the backgroung to show his view). You don't even need any fancy editing. Just play the games and tape yourself playing the games. Gamers want to see the product in action not read specs. Specifications can only do so much to justify a purchase.

This would be a cheap way to garner more interest in the product. Post videos on youtube while your at it. Please don't make some cheap editing with cheap special FX in your demonstration videos like the other VR-HMD product videos. Just keep it very simple and record people using your product in all supported games.

Quality Product...Sloppy Assembly

I got the AV-230 video eyewear for the holidays. They are great and work very well. BUT!!!

On the glass inside the goggles, there is a bunch of dust crap that is TOTALLY ANNOYING!

This could have been an avoidable problem by using a clean room to assemble and hiring someone at $5/hour to use some canned air, but no, it looks like someone assembled these in their child's sand box in a dust storm.

It's the little things guys...the little things. I wouldn't have noticed a bit of resolution drop here or there, or the bit rate of the sound being a little off, but slinging mud onto the glass portion where my eyes are supposed to watch a show? Unacceptable!!!

I would have given them a 4.5/5.0 but because this company has some sort of issue with 'quality constancy', I give them a 2.0/5.0

Wireless VR920?

Hey,
I was wondering if you have any plans to make the VR920 wireless. I just got one and I love it, but it would be so much cooler if it was wireless. Is this possible? Will this happen? If so, how long will it be?

Green and skintones interchanged

Skin tones are often interchanged with a brighter green colour at certain brightness levels. It looks a bit weird. I think it would be better if that didn't happen so much, even if it means the colours look a bit flatter. Something to consider for the next firmware patch.

Head tracking controling mouse

I can't tell how disapointed I got when I found VR 920 head tracking is enabled only for some games.

I understand it's intended to control the players vision instead the charecter position, but I'm sure it would be great to have the possibility to control the mouse with it

It would allow me to navegate on the web and would enable it in almost every game avaliable, like happens withing the P5 virtual glove.

I could lay in my bed, use my wireless mouse's buttons and just turn my head, instead of sitting in a hard chair in front of my pc

Who agree with me ?

About the forum...

I really don't want to be whiny, but the forums are rather slow most of the time, often pages won't load at all, it will just keep loading forever. This is particularly annoying while trying to post a message, but even trying to read a topic takes a few minutes and a few times reloading.

BioShock Drivers: A great idea for the VR920.

To Vuzix,

I hope youwill make VR920 drivers for the new game BioShock, which is going to be released soon.

The gameis getting great reviewsand I think the VR920 and BioShock would be a great team together.

Add "Aces High II" to the game list

I'm from the UK and bought the glasses hoping Vuzix will see the light and add "Aces High II" to the games list. If you don't already know "Aces High" is an online WWII Combat Sim along the same lines as IL-2 but with a much bigger online community. I've been playing the game for about 4 years and play a very active role on the forums. I have everything working other than the stereoscopic aspect, I run an 8600 GTS and there are no drivers available at the moment, however even with the limited usage on the product I am blown away. I will be logging a report on the new eyewear for all to see in the "Aces High" community forum......can you please give me an indication to pass onto the masses as to when you will be adding "Aces High II" to the list?

As most of the customer base for "Aces High II" is in the USA and people have been waiting for an affordable VR product like this.........I can see lots of sales from our community if you added us.

Regards
