It is important to note, however, that none of the AV models can be used as a monitor replacement. Rather, there is only one situation where they are truly ‘usable’ on a computer, and that is to watch fullscreen video playback. This is a limitation of the S-Video port; it has no ability to scale an image up or down. This means that as a general rule, it will output, pixel for pixel, the resolution you’ve set your desktop to. The result is a small rectangle of your desktop, with your cursor in the middle. As you move your cursor, the visible area moves with it. However, any time you set a video, be it a DVD you’re watching, or streaming video, to fullscreen, there is a software scaling which is done, and the video plays on the television in full screen. In this setup, the AV230XL is the television.

RE: Connecting the AV230XL to a laptop

No luck, eh?

Connecting the AV230XL to a laptop

Hi, folks!

Brand new to this, I purchased an AV230XL with the idea that I could connect it to other things than a portable DVD player for purposes at work. The gentleman at the store recommended picking up VGA to RCA adapter, which I purchased at a local electronics store. Alas, I see that the connectors aren't quite right...

The RCA plugs fit, of course, but the VGA to RCA are video only, whereas the RCA cables for the AV230XL include audio.

Any suggestions as to how best to hook these glasses up to a computer?

Many thanks!
