driver issues

I just got my VR920. I had already installed the downloaded drivers and apps from the vuzix website. I hooked it up and after configuring the video it worked. All except one small issue; The VR920 monitor app says the VR920 video port cannot be found. The vr920 apps, Visualizer, AxySnake, and AirXonix work in 3d video and have head tracking. I have not tried any other installed apps; Halo, Crysis warhead, and Flightsimulator X, but they are recognized by the monitor as being installed. Orangebox is not recognized as being installed.

I have a Macbook Pro dual booting into Vista for the headset and games. Would anyone have any idea why I get the error in the Monitor App?

My Experience of VR920 with Crysis

Hopefully I upgrade my gaming rig and Crysis started to run on my PC fluently on maximum settings.
And of course I started to play it with my VR920, and what can I say...
It's really great stuff to play with! :)

Default iWear stereo settings doesn't work good for me (it was very hard to aim), so I experimented with them and here is the best result I've reached (edit values of VR920Dx9Stereo.cfg):

Method=5, IPD_View=0.015,IPD_Menu=0.00,Manual_VSync=0,Locking=0,QueryGPU=1,LogFile=0,AutoIPD=0, ExpMax=0.11, ExpRate=0.001, ExpPoint=0.10

Also, I changed game's FOV in order to get more immersive visual. Default game FOV is 75 degrees, VR920's FOV is 32 degree, but using 32 degree FOV in game - make it very hard to play. So I found, that is best for myself setup FOV to 50 degrees.

For this you can open console in game by pressing "~" button, and type:
con_restricted=0
cl_fov=50

For non-jittering headtracking I used GlovePie, if you have no jitter with default VR920 tracking then you can use it.
Hope this info would be useful for somebody, and you will enjoy play Crysis in VR920 as I did :)

P.S. I still thinking how can I use my gamepad or P5-Glove to increase immersion...

Guide for 3D video authoring for the iPhone/iPod?

Hi technical team,

I spent some significant time trying to find how to encode and display a 3D movie on an iPhone and using AV310. It is advertised everywhere this is possible despite I have [b]NOT[/b] been able to find any movie, sample or information (except from Pieter in this forum).

Would it be possible to have a guide, or FAQ, that give technical details on how the full process is supposed to work? What is done from the iPhone to the glasses through the cable? What is the video signal received by glasses? What information is supposed to trigger 3D display on the glasses?

Movie watching with VR920

I am a noob to all of this. My headset should arrive next week. I have some questions about viewing movies on the VR920. I have found the stereoscopic movie viewer application. I notice support for Field Sequential, Analgam, etc. What kind of system does the VR920 use? What settings should I use to view 3d movies in the stereoscopic viewer software? Do the 3d versions of the movies coming out in theaters work with the Vr920? If so, what do i need to convert them to whatever format the headset uses? I'm sure I have forgotten some other things I need to know, so any information you can think of would help.

2 vr apps, one game

Hi, I have 2 games which are covered by Vuzix tracking and 3d.

Flight Sim X and World of Warcraft.

In both instances I would like to run the Tracking from Vuzix and use the 3d from iz3d.

Is this at all possible?

Most other games have trackir (GlovePIE) support and can be run with 2 separate apps but I haven't been able to get these games set up with it.

Do you think new stereoscopic Nvidia drivers work with VR920 ?

Do you think the drivers will be compatible with the VR920 ?
These drivers work fine with new Nvidia card 8x and 9x.

Old Nvidia drivers with old nvidia card work fine with VR920, maybe this new one work on the same way with new nvidia vidéo cards.

Vuzix DVD Player Battery Run Time

I have a Vuzix DVD Player that is only a month old and the run time for the battery is an hour or less. I don't see on the Vuzix website anywhere where I can order one and the info on the battery itself is very minimal.

Does anyone know where I can locate a replacement battery for the DVD player or where Vuzix gets the batteries from for the DVD players? Any help would be appreciated.

Using with eyeglasses

does anyone that has to use reading glasses to see up close have any input on using the 920VR? I don't want to buy one if I can't see it clearly.
I've tried reading print at a distance of a few inches while wearing my glasses and it's blurry. So, if the screens are too close to the eyes, it might make it difficult for me to see it.

Any experience or opinions welcome.

Hi,
I have had a VR920 about 1 week now and am testing it with everything I have and it is better than I thought but I still have some bugs to sort out.

The resolution is great and the 3d amazing when working properly. I had to keep adjusting the nose pads every day until I got them perfect for my face and as I wear glasses It was a bit tricky at first but now I hardly notice the head set on.
The head tracking works great and is the reason why I didn,t just go for a 3d monitor.
The earphones now are on flexible cable instead of the previous semi rigid design and work great except for some interference from my mouse.

The problem I have left is in FSX and Lock on and its with the random flickering of the 3d on and off which I see some other members have experienced. I think it might be a cable problem as I tightened everything up this morning and it fixed it on lock on. I still have to try FSX.
Also the 3d effect in these games only seems to effect the aircraft objects and all the scenery stays 2d. I have used the iz3d drivers in lock on with vusix head tracking and the 3d is much better. iz3d doesnt seem to work with FSX.

Roller coaster tycoon 3d is very good too but the head tracking in it sucks so hopefully I can tweak that. Crysis works great as well

I thought 640 x 480 would show up all jaggy but it doesn't it actually looks higher res. the screen size looks about the same as my 22" monitor from abot 2.5 ft so its definitly big enough.

I also watched some 3d movies which looked great aswell using the trial stereoscopic player. It would have been good to have this type of player with the glasses and maybe an editor for the visualiser program.
It would be great if it could have been used for watching a standard video source as well but I suppose we can't have everything yet.

Over all its an amazing bit if kit for the money.

resolution AV310 Widescreen versus AV230 XL+

Can anybody help me choose the best type?

The thing is, that the cheaper AV230 has 640 x 480 which results in about 300.000 total pixels,
the more expensive AV 310 has 428 x 240 which results in only 100.000 total pixels.

When I play a 4:3 video on the AV 230 it has the highest resolution and when I play it on the AV310 I will get black stripes on the left and right and loose even more pixels then it has itself.
When I play a 16:9 video on the AV 230 it will get black stripes up and down but will allways play a higher resoltion then the AV 310.

So, why is the widescreen AV 310 more expensive while it has less capability then the AV 230 or am I wrong and missing something?

great product, before I buy this baby I would like to quickly check if the vr920 will also work without connecting it to a PC or other device with the drivers installed, but with just a video source feeding the VGA connector.

Would this work?
I know that audio, 3d vision and so on are out of the question, I'm talking about plain old video.

Which version of Glovepie was the latest one that supports the VR920? The newest V 0.30 does not list it as being supported.
I do not have a VR920 yet but plan to get one soon. I just thought I'd get everything I need in advance. I wish Vuzix would make a universal version, ie. one that would not only work with a pc for VR, but also has the capabilities of the AV units too. I'm sure it can't be much more than the interface cables. I have a difficult time justifying paying for 2 HMDs. Mac and linux support would also be a huge plus. I hate having to use Microsoft just to use these kind of things. But I guess there aren't that many apps/games for those OSs so I can see why.

Hey Vuzix members!!! It's been awhile since I've posted anything good. I've been working on putting the VR920 into another helmet. If you remeber the first one I did I used the old Power Ranger helmet for the kids. Well I knew not having headphones would be the pain and trying to add them was just a waste. So what I did was I bought one of the Trimersions and used that shell for this Mod. They too took the old shells and molded they're own style with added headphones support. The velcro strap in the back is better and the shell itself is smaller and lighter. :D Now adding the vuzix into this shell did take some time but it fit nice;)

I also took the time to paint it and paint the gun as well. Bob over at 3001AD did a nice job on the gun, to bad the glasses were wireless and had a small FOV. Then I wouldn't have changed them, anyways there is they gyro tracker in the shell which will allow you to look like a mouse if you wanted the vuzix disabled, the gun connected to the helmet still connects wireless to the receiver and is picked up like a keyboard to the PC. Very cool setup....:)

I just finished building a Pod for my entertainment out of PVC pipe. Im going to take some pic's tomorrow and post some shots...

Oh yeah, I changed the headphones that came with the trimersion with some Sennheiser. I got lucky picking the PCX150, alittle dremmel work and they fit like they were meant to be..

I saw these on the gadget show, last night, they look okay, BUT so did the 2 pairs of MYVU video glasses I bought, which turned out to be useless

The MYVU are not that good, I have tried them in various places, but with very poor results

ARE these any better ?

I've read various reviews about them, but I am still sceptible about spending another couple of hundred quid on something that will end up in a draw (like the 2 pairs of MYVU's)

I'd like to get a few comments from people who own any of the products on offer

I'll probably use them for watching films on an Ipod touch, maybe use them on a games console (not really sure about this yet though)

I could see them being used on aircraft, on a beach, by the pool, in bright sunlight, complete darkness, the kids would use them in the car

The MYVU were completely useless for any of these applications and haven't been used since they were tried the once and have been consigned to the draw (probably end up on ebay)

So any views/recommmendations would be appreciated (and is there anywhere I could try them out BEFORE I spend out even more cash ?)

Creating 3D content for the AV-series (AV920 e.g.)

The AV-series glasses are capable of displaying 3D content like 3D DVD's. This "standard" 3D technology uses interlacing filtering (even and non-even lines filtering) to seperate the left and right images. On PAL systems (Europe) there are 625 lines (576 visible) at 50 HZ, on NTSC systems (America) 525 lines (486 visible) at 60 HZ. Half of them make an (left or right) image.

Connecting your AVxxx glasses to a PC (using S-video or composite) won't work out of the box for 3D content since your PC uses totally different resolutions (800x600 e.g.). The eDimensional drivers, available at http://www.edimensional.com/support_updates.php, do however create very nice interlaced 3D content. Best of all, they even work under Windows Vista (the Nvidia drivers won't if they don't detect any special hardware like the VR920 glasses). There is more software available for creating interlaced content. Have a look at:

The "StereoMovie Maker" really works very well for creating your own stereo movies. Try it out with some standard anaglyph 3D glasses! Sample movies can be found on the same website.

However, back to the problem... Ok you've created a 3D movie. Viewing it on a PC with VR920 glasses won't be a problem. But how to view them with the AV920 glasses on your PC, iPod or TV? Is there any way to create a DVD for your DVD player? Any solutions?

Have had the Vuzix 920Vr for a day now and the stereoscopic stuff is great!

I really want to use is with Lord of the Rings online, but even though the game is installed on my system, the monitor will not recognise it is there.

Has anyone had the same problem?
Is there a workaround?

Need help with HeadTracking in FSX

I need some help with the Head Tracking in FSX. I have all the current updates for FSX (SP1&2). I have also updated the VR920 software from 2.3 to 2.4. I know that the product works because when I run the 3D-visuals that comes with the unit, its tracks it good..But with FSX, it does not track it at all. I have also done what most people have talked about in the forum, which is, adding the correct vr920 files to the FSX files and no luck with anything. But the 3D-stereo works good.

Another thing that I notice, I did not get the message about adding the module at the start of FSX...why? I ran the software in Admin mode, but I'm not sure why it did not work.. The Drivers for the VR920 have install correctly, but its just the head tracking system that seems not to function:(

I cannot find the VR920Flight.log file in the FSX directory, because its not there..

So, if some one can help me, I would greatly thank you because I'm going out of ideas, as to what it may be...

P.S. I'm running windows vista 64- Intel Core 2 Quad with GForce 8800GT..(8800 GT drivers updated). thank you..And I will check back shorty..

Aiming in any FPS game double image ?

i just bought a VR920 glasses , they work great but in all my FPS games I have a big problem: when I try to aim (with my gun) a double image of the gun appear... and become impossible to hit something, also this double image is very hard to focus.

Anyone has a solution ??

As you all will know, these products are all to be used with multimedia equipment, consoles, PC's etc...however, i feel like they have been marketed as just another innovative screen, which it is, but i feel that its main focus should be to improve current virtual reality technology for the consumer, with which i believe would mainly concern consoles and gaming in general. I can see how this is all sounds very blunt and obvious, but i have recently been talking with one of the technical team in the UK and have been told that Vuzix are planning on intergrating cameras and bluetooth etc...this to me sounds pointless as there are handheld items already on the market that do all this and more! eg: th I-phone, HTC touch etc. My point is, surely they should be concentrating on the gaming realism istead of going down a route that inevitably wont go very far!

Ive had the vr920 glasses now for a couple of days and the only game that ive been trying to get working is flat out 2,its not on the iwear monitor list (is there anyway to add it) so ive been trying iz3d trial version.the game works great but the 3d is no where near as good as the anaglyph red and blue paper glasses,is this right i would of thought the £200 vr920 would be a lot better than a pair of paper glasses,am i doing something wrong there just seems to be more 3d with the anaglyph???

also when you pay so much money for something you expect them to work with the software provided not have to download a trial version of someone elses software that costs $50 to use it..

i am running windows vista32 and a 8800gts

any help would be great

Seeking VR920 or M920 for project

Hi all, just joined the forums.

I'm in the planning stages of a senior project at my university. My teammates and I have decided we'd like to work with what we call "coreality", sharing video and audio between people using wearable computers. Since we're using wearable computers, we need to find some sort of head mounted displays. I just played around with a friend's VR920 and I was suitably impressed; when adjusted correctly, the display is quite clear and pleasant, even at moderately high resolutions. I think a Vuzix display such as the VR920 or the unfortunately discontinued M920 (which I like because it doesn't completely obscure vision) would be good for our project.

Our only problem: we get $200 for the project, and we need at least two displays. As rather broke college students, we can't afford to go shelling out $800 out of pocket for a pair of VR920s, so I'm coming here. Does anyone have a few VR920 or M920 units they would be willing to sell to us? I am of course watching eBay, but it's difficult to trust sometimes and everything seems to be going for at least $400.

Hopefully this post isn't in contradiction with the rules of the forum; mods, let me know if there's a problem.

question to simplify vr920

ok... i was looking into the vr920 for when i get my new laptop... i love to play first person shooters... however what really turned me onto it was that it is compatible with wow... now here is where i see the difficulty.. and maybe somone can correct me on this... If ur eyes are encumpased by the screen... yes u may be able to look around using the tracker... and chat using the mic... but how do u see the keyboard for ur macros... or ur movment keys... is there a device i can get that will simplify my keyboard so that i can do this... or am i just screwed so to speak lol

I have done a semi-3D conversion of the movie from 2D..

Looks OK, most scenes you can see a difference...

I am working on a sample of a much more 3D depth effect version and should have a sample of that ready in a few hours(ok, this clip is a couple minutes and is taking around 9 hours)

(The first version took like 24 hours to convert, this next full version will take a few days ata least..not an easy process)

If you are interested just reply to this post and I will set up a torrent....

Keep in mind a 2D-3D conversion is not easy, and not perfect...I took my time on this first version but was also in a hurry to see if I could do it..quality is good just some scenes are still in 2D for faster conversion

I admit I am not as experienced in how these resolutions and FOV affect all the aspects of the game. I do know that my old VR glasses (I-O I-Glasses) that ran at 800x600 made it impossible to read any text when using them.

My question for you guys that definatly have a better grasp on these would be with the new improvements I have read about the new up comming VR1440 that Still is in 800x600 apparently do you think with the other improvements that Text will be readable comfortably?

I would probably enjoy using these playing various MMO's or maybe even in some first person shooters that may not be using voice chat 100% of the time so text on screen is important to be readable.

What do you guys think?

There are a some field sequential movies, but how can I get my iPod to play those movies? it is very restricted in its output, and the movies I have so far can not even be imported into itunes. Do i need a special software to allow the iPod to show different pictures on the left and right monitor of the AV920?

How Can I Buy a new Nose Bridge for the VR920

I was trying to adjust the nose bridge of my VR920, when it just broke-off!! I tried to glue it back together, and very time I tried to put it back, it would just break again!! Its the left-side tab that broke-off, by the way..

So, I was wondering, where can I buy a new one, since there is no way to order parts off the Vuzix's website??

more or less, how much will it cost, as well??

P.S. my warranty has pass:w00t:

Also, any comments, such as how to customize the old nose bridge or customize a new one, would be great.;)
