Reading through Firmware Upgrade guide, I followed instructions of installer up to 3rd disconnect and then at about 30% it produced a error.
Now my computer still recognize the device, (Vuzix VR, sub sound, stereo control et cetera), but the goggles screens are dead. Updater reports that my goggles have 1.109.000.-1 version (which is apparently sign of trouble) and "Your Vr920 canot be updated. Please contact Vuzix Tecnical support". I tried to connect those goggles to couple different computers (one win xp 32) and one vmwared version of win xp64, but to no avail.
Any suggestions what should i try before sending the brick back home to NY ?

P.S. calibrator shows version 1.109.000:255

RE: iWear VR920 - Firmware Update v1.109.103.13 released

Ok it's good now. Only fair to thank all you guys at Vuzix....Todd is a top man! I had a couple of moments where I thought it wont work but it all came good in the end! I have it working in 3D on FSX but will need to sort out the tracking as it still seems to be an issue, well thats a post for another thread!

Great work guys, thanks for the support your customers wont forget!

RE: iWear VR920 - Firmware Update v1.109.103.13 released

That's great news! Had a few hiccups on the way, but nothing major. The changes in the new firmware are very nice, thanks for the great work Vuzix team!
Just a couple of comments for the frustrated guys:
1) When installing the firmware update the Hardware Wizard didn't find anything automatically for me either. Then I just went with the second option and chose the location of the driver manually. For me it was in: "C:\Program Files\Icuiti Corporation\iWear VR920\driver".
2) When installing the update (the long 10-minute part of it), i had something like 10 errored tries. In the end I turned off my antivirus and firewall software, after which the installation finished successfully in one go. Also keep an eye on the progress bar while retrying, if after several tries it manages to progress further than where it previously errored, I suspect it is a good thing and it is slowly getting where it should. Don't give up :) the firmware is worth it.

RE: iWear VR920 - Firmware Update v1.109.103.13 released

When you are updating it on other computers, you do put the 1.1 drivers on those computers first, right?

Don't forget to make sure that the VR920 is not being used while you are updating the firmware. Normally it happens on the left screen. It fixes itself after about 5 minutes. It should only happen when you plug it in, then the signal manages to sync itself and it works until you unplug it. You can't send it back unless it takes 15 minutes or more to sync itself. They recommend solving the problem by just leaving it plugged in.

RE: iWear VR920 - Firmware Update v1.109.103.13 released

damn ive still got nothing ive tryed multiple computers and different usb ports , safe mode , i try sweet talking it and yelling at it the only thing left is to sing to it but i dont want to risk that.

well i guess ill pack it ready for shipping for now since its the weekend and im in a different timezone :(

maybe i can just hang my 26" tv on my head and use freetrack :w00t:

RE: iWear VR920 - Firmware Update v1.109.103.13 released

Haaaaa I'm so pissed off!! They don't even put it into stereo mode anymore (the old firmware went into stereo mode when the API calls were used).

So I'm guessing I have to use the new functions that were added to the stereo DLL in the new version. I had a quick look at the new functions with a PE file viewer, but I'm not sure how to use them.

Even without calling any stereo functions though, I can get it to show a different image on each screen, but can't make it consistent which screen is which (the user has to put it in stereo mode through the VR920 menu).
EDIT: I did some more guessing (and some decompiling) and I found the new function IWRSTEREO_SetStereo. It allows me to turn on the stereo mode. But I still can't stop it from showing the wrong eye sometimes. Having the SDK would be very useful.

RE: iWear VR920 - Firmware Update v1.109.103.13 released

Slybri, this update seems pretty good at unbricking things. At the part where the "new hardware wizard" was supposed to download some firmware update driver, i selected "no not at this time" and "Install the software automatically" like the instructions said. The hardware wizard said there were no drivers available. I assumed this meant that the drivers were already installed or something, because the instructions from Vuzix didnt say anything about that. There was no option to cancel and I didnt know what else to do so I just clicked "Update"

The updater did nothing for 10 minutes, it just sat frozen with not bar progressing, so I closed it.

Now my vr920 is dead and the update program will not recognize it at all. "please plug in your vr920" is all it says as I plug the thing in repeatedly. The computer recognizes a usb device when i plug it in, but thats it.

I guess I need to ask for a replacement.

RE: iWear VR920 - Firmware Update v1.109.103.13 released

Hello i'm new and i'm french. It took 10 minutes, as it said it would, and it worked perfectly. Now I have version 1.109.103.13!

This firmware update was very smooth, straightforward, and easy.

As others have stated before me, the screen is now a beautiful blue colour when it is powered but inactive. I'm not entirely convinced that is a good idea, because it will no doubt cause (temporary) burn in. But it looks a lot prettier, and it lets the user know it is working (just not selected in control panel).

Now I'm going to test what other cool things it can do now!

RE: iWear VR920 - Firmware Update v1.109.103.13 released

The link should be fixed shortly.

When you're unbricking a unit, it's very important that you watch the message when the update in completed (see instructions). If you run the update program on a brick, it runs through once to debrick it, updating it to version 1.109.101.1. Then you are supposed to run through it again to update the other parts. Instructions for applying the update are provided as a separate download file as well as included in the update file set. Be sure to read these instructions thoroughly before attempting to apply the firmware update.

Vuzix 3D Drivers: This firmware update release (v1.1.0) enables the VR920 to utilize Vuzix 3D Drivers when used in conjunction with iWear software version 1.1.0 or greater. The Vuzix 3D Drivers enable the iWear VR920 to display supported titles in 3D stereoscopy using virtually any brand of graphics cards operating in Windows XP or Vista.

Update Compatibility: There is a ‘very small’ number of early production VR920’s that are not compatible with this firmware update. The update software recognizes these units and advises the user to contact Customer Support for assistance, without affecting the operating ability of the unit. Customer Support will determine if message was due to incompatibility or another cause and address the matter accordingly.

Bricked Units: Some VR920s failed after an update attempt using the earlier pre-release candidate of the firmware updater.
